Spinexpo

This term we were really lucky to be offered an extra project alongside our main module. This was set by Sophie Stellar for a trade show called Spinexpo, similar to the pitti filati show we visited but alot bigger and in Shanghai! We were given a brief on the types of fabrics required to fit the trends for spring/summer 2012. As a group of around 15, we produced garments, accessories and lengths of fabric. The show was held 8th-10th of march so hopefully we will see some pictures of Sophie's stand soon but in the meantime this is what I made..

In total It took about 40 hours to knit and about a day to put together but I loved doing it, it was a really great opportunity and a chance to do something a bit different!

Year Two, Project One - Final Outfit

Final outcome from our first project this academic year. For this project we had to start out by picking a brand and design it for that brand. I picked Missoni and the inspiration for it was mainly based around 1970s Malibu Barbie

Pitti Filati

Pitti Filati January 2010
Definitely way over due on this post. The past couple of months have been crazy but now uni work has calmed down a bit I can sort of relax a bit more and catch up on the mountains of draft posts I've started to create.
Pitti Filati is a yarn/knit trade show which as a year group we got to visit whilst being in Florence. It was such a great experience to gather inspiration and develop future ideas. We definitely found the more simple stitches came across as more effective which was possibly the most inspiring.
Here are just a few pics of my favourite parts..

Massive chandelier type ceiling hangings, put together with different sections of different fabrics

 This was definitely my favourite part of the show, at least 150 mini garments on mini mannequins all arranged in circles in a separate room, each garment was so creative and really well thought through. Unfortunately I have no idea what this part of the show was showing/selling, if anything. However we did notice each garment had a persons name underneath, but that was about it. Especially loving the leather collars and skirt hems mixed with knit and the wealth of textures!



Florence

Last week we were lucky enough to go to forence for Pitti Filati, here are a few snaps of florence itself of the first night and day. We spent pretty much all of the first day in the high end stores developing expensive taste hence why the sight seeing pics are slightly lacking..

Highlights include: Truffle sauce, 99cents wine, CELINE, AMAZING knitwear, Vouge italia, Salvatore Ferragamo, Vintage Treats, "Discoteque", getting into the drivers seat of a taxi and Luisa Via Roma.
